The main entrance to the library is the same. Our 24-hour book drop is open in the Northeast corner of the building!  Additional parking has been added to the front and side of the building. 

COVID-19: We are following the CDC’s recommended guidelines to keep our employees and patrons safe. Masks are required for those who are not fully vaccinated.

P/T Custodian, 25 hours per week position

Performs general cleaning and minor maintenance of the library building. Also assists staff, visitors, and other employees as necessary.

General Duties

    • • Maintain, clean, and improve facility property. Sweeps and cleans the front porch area, sidewalks, windows, weeding, etc.
    • • Uses brooms, mops, and floor equipment to sweep, and mop floors.
    • • Uses vacuum cleaners to clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and blinds.
    • • Dusts furniture and equipment.
    • • Dust walls, woodwork, windows, doors, glass, and sills.
    • • Makes minor repairs as requested.
    • • Empties wastebaskets and takes out trash and recycling.
    • • Replenishes restroom supplies.
    • • Sets up and tears down chairs, tables, and equipment in meeting rooms.
    • • Meets with companies to allow access for HVAC system, pest control, fire systems, and other contracts to ensure systems are regularly checked and in accordance with the library maintenance contracts.
    • • Tracks cleaning supply inventory and sends requests to purchase to Acquisitions Coordinator.
    • • Follows all applicable safety rules and procedures.
    • • Reports work accomplished orally or on written work order to supervisor.

Additional Duties

    • • Uses hand tools and power tools in making minor maintenance repairs and maintaining grounds and walks.
    • • Assists in shipping and receiving of library items in storage.
    • • Goes to the North Whitehall Township book drop two days per week.
    • • Assists volunteers, staff, and patrons as necessary.

Receives general supervision from the Library Director and Administrative and Finance Manager.

Qualifications Profile

    • • The skills and knowledge required would generally be obtained with previous experience in building cleaning and maintenance work.
    • • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved oral or written instructions.
    • • Ability to relate to officials, staff, and the public in a courteous manner.
    • • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing from 15 to 25 pounds.
    • • Ability to work occasionally in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
    • • Personal vehicle will be used for errands and storage runs.

Satisfactory completion of criminal history, child abuse screening, and FBI fingerprinting before employment and every three years thereafter.

P/T Tech Center Assistant 

The Parkland Community Library is currently accepting applications for two part-time Tech Center Assistants. We are looking for enthusiastic, patron-focused new members of our team who are aligned with our service values and core beliefs, including a commitment to excellence, and cultivating and preserving a culture of inclusion with a diverse team of employees.

At $9.75/hour, approximately 18 hrs/week.  The schedule will be primarily daytime hours, but may include an evening, and includes some Saturdays. 

An understanding of computers and an eagerness to learn new things is expected. Public library experience is preferred but not required.

Tech Center Assistant Responsibilities Include:

    • • Overall monitoring of public computer use in the Tech Center and being willing to enforce posted policies when needed
    • • Assisting patrons with the use of the internet and basic online functions (creating email addresses, retrieving lost passwords, signing up for library programming, etc.)
    • • Using EnvisionWare software to complete Tech Center functions (releasing print jobs, extending computer use time, printing guest passes, etc.)
    • • Helping patrons make copies and scan documents to USB thumb drives.
    • • Troubleshooting issues on a patron’s personal device
    • • Additional tasks as assigned
