We have been notified that one of our employees has been exposed to the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. As such, employees working at Parkland Community Library may have been exposed to this virus. 

Returns- Please hold your returns until we reopen, or they can be returned to another LCLC library. Fines will not be issued during this COVID-19 closure. 

Holds- Can be picked up when we reopen. Notifications will not be resent. Items will be held for 4 business days after we reopen.

It’s definitely a challenge to stay home with kids for an extended period. Try to take this opportunity to do things you rarely have time to do: play board games, read a book aloud together, cook together, work on home and gardening projects. There are lots of resources available online to keep kids busy and entertained, and that you can enjoy as a family. Here are some that we’ve compiled. How to Talk to Your Kids about Coronavirus


  • Overdrive & Libby (app)-- Your Library Card gives you access to eBooks, eAudiobooks, and magazines through both Overdrive & Libby. You can also stream video from Overdrive.

  • Hoopla-- A service where you can instantly borrow digital movies, music, eBooks and more, 24/7 with your library card.  

  • Little Free Library-- Don’t forget to check out a Little Free Library.  Feel free to swing by Fernwood Park or Martha Nolan Memorial park (to name a few) and grab a book. Please consider leaving a book you are finished with and ready to pass on. 

  • Author, Oliver Jeffers will be reading a book a day until it’s safe to go outside again.

  • Author, Brad Meltzer will be reading his “I Am” books online.

  • Storytime from Space-- Astronauts on the Space Station reading stories to and conducting science experiments for the children of Earth as the world rotates below.

  • Storyline Online-- Videos featuring celebrated actors reading children’s books alongside creatively produced illustrations. Readers include Viola Davis, Chris Pine, Lily Tomlin, Kevin Costner, Annette Bening, James Earl Jones, Betty White and many more.


  • Mr. Jon & Friends will be doing a daily FB Livestream at 10:30am EST for Toddlers/ Preschoolers.

  • Join Laurie Berkner for Live Berkner breaks on FB most days at 10am EST.

  • The Metropolitan Opera will be showing a live performance every night from their catalog of recorded events.


  • Virtual Museum Tours: Get access to 12 Virtual Museum Tours, including the Guggenheim, The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, and the British Museum in London.
  • Draw Every Day with JKK (Author/Illustrator Jarrett Krosoczka).

  • Mo Willems is hosting a Lunch Doodle every Monday at 1pm Eastern.


  • Smarter Every Day – This YouTube channel, hosted by Destin Sandlin, digs into questions, like how cats always land on their feet and what beat-boxing looks like in slow motion.
  • Scholastic at Home – Day by day projects to keep kids reading, thinking, and growing
  • BreakoutEDU Fun@Home – A collection of digital games that students grades K-12 can play at home.
  • Hour of Code has lots of tutorials on coding
  • Skype a Scientist – Check out the awesome lineup! Mostly scheduled from 12-2 eastern time. BATS! POOP! FARTS!!! SNAKES! WHALES! SPACE!!!  
  • The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is doing Home Safari Facebook Lives every day at 3pm.
