May is Mental Health month and it is important to remember why #mentalhealthmatters. Statistics provided by the National Alliance on Mental Illness show:

  • 1 in every 5 adults in the United States are affected by a mental illness
  • 50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14 and 75% begins by age 24.

Mental health is a lifetime journey that is unique to you. Taking time to understand your diagnosis and work with a medical professional will help create a better understanding of how to manage your mental health going forward. There are a multitude of tools you can use to craft an individualized self-care plan.

Parkland Community Library is introducing our Self-Care Series. During the month of May, we will have videos, resources, and other information available every Friday on Facebook. Together as a community, we can help #breakthestigma surrounding mental health.
